Chennai shocker: Man beheads wife over suspected infidelity; reaches TV channel to narrate it, held

CHENNAI: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable, who beheaded his wife in Tuticorin district, was arrested in Chennai on Saturday moments after he approached a news channel to talk about the murder. The accused, Tamil Selvan, a native of Thalavaipuram village near Eral in Tuticorin district, was nabbed by Teynampet police near Nungambakkam High Road after an alert from the media personnel. He was later handed over to the Tuticorin district police for further investigation.Police said Tamil Selvan murdered his wife Uma Maheshwari, 32, suspecting her of infidelity, on July 31 at their home in Thalavaipuram. He then severed her head. He then took their nine-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter to his father-in-law’s house before absconding.

After a couple of days, Tamil Selvan approached a TV channel office and expressed desire to speak publicly about the crime. Shocked by the request, channel staff alerted the Teynampet assistant commissioner of police, Arockia Ravindran. Police rushed to the spot and nabbed him. When contacted, Tuticorin SP Albert John, said“Our team has reached Chennai. We will obtain a transit warrant from a magistrate court.” Police said Tamil Selvan long harboured doubts about wife’s fidelity and even installed surveillance cameras both inside and outside the house.
