Chamba tragedy: 6 dead as car crushed by boulders; vehicle falls 500m into gorge | Shimla News

KULLU: Six people including four of a family died when the car they were travelling in was hit by boulders in the Churah sub-division of Chamba district on late Thursday night.The car plunged into a gorge, at least 500 meters down the road, by the impact of the boulders. However, officials are still to confirm the cause of the accident.The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, 40, a government school teacher, his wife Hanso Devi, 35, their two children Aarti, 17 and Dipak, 15, Rakesh Kumar, 44 and Hem Pal, 37.According to information, the accident occurred at around 9.30 pm near Chanvas village on Thursday when Rajesh along with his family and two more known people were returning from Banikhet.

The locals were first to reach the accident spot who informed the police and emergency services.A police officer said that significant difficulties were faced in the relief and rescue operations due to the extremely inaccessible location of the accident spot. The officer said that all the victims had died on the spot.Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh chief minister has expressed grief over the death of six people in the accident.
