CBSE releases important assessment scheme for Class 12 board exam results in West Asia; read notice here

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a special assessment scheme for declaring Class 12 results for students studying in West Asian countries. This decision has been taken due to the current situation in the region.Exams cancelled due to safety concernsCBSE said that Class 12 board examinations scheduled from March 16, 2026 to April 10, 2026 have been cancelled. The decision applies to CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.Exams that were earlier postponed in March 2026 have also been cancelled. The board said the decision was taken to ensure the safety and security of students.Why an alternative assessment scheme is neededCBSE stated that some exams were already conducted before the situation worsened. However, many exams could not be held.To ensure fair results, the board has introduced an alternative method instead of relying on incomplete exam data.How many subjects are involvedAcademic subjects: 17Skill subjects: 10Total subjects: 27Categories of students coveredThe board has identified different groups of students based on how many exams they appeared in:Students who appeared in all subjectsStudents who appeared in 4, 3, 2 or 1 subjectStudents whose all exams are pendingStudents with compartment or additional subjectsHow marks will be calculatedCBSE said Class 12 has two parts:Theory examinationPractical or Internal AssessmentMarks are divided as follows:Practical or Internal Assessment marks will be taken as already awarded by schools.For theory marks, different methods will be used depending on the student’s case.Key points of the assessment schemeStudents who appeared in all subjects will be assessed based on their performance in exams already conductedStudents who appeared in fewer subjects will have their results prepared using school-based assessments and internal marksSchools will use periodic tests, half yearly exams and pre-board exams for evaluationBest performance among available records will be consideredMarks will be uploaded by schools as per CBSE guidelinesFor students with only one examResult will be based on that exam.
