CBSE announces deadline for class 10 and 12 admissions and subject changes: Complete registration by August 31
CBSE class 10, 12 admission deadline set as August 31, 2025.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a final deadline for direct admissions and subject change requests for students of Classes 10 and 12 for the academic session 2025–26. Schools affiliated with CBSE are required to complete all admissions and subject modifications by August 31, 2025, beyond which no applications will be entertained. The Board’s move is aimed at ensuring uniformity in student records, maintaining examination integrity, and helping schools plan academic schedules efficiently. Parents and students are advised to act promptly, as delays could affect examination registrations and subject allocations for the upcoming academic year.

CBSE deadlines and procedures

As per the guidelines, the following deadlines are to be followed by schools:

  • August 31, 2025: Last date for schools to process direct admissions and subject change requests.
  • September 2, 2025: Schools must compile and forward all records to their respective CBSE Regional Offices.
  • September 15, 2025: CBSE Regional Offices are expected to review and approve all admissions and subject changes.

Who can apply after the deadline?

CBSE allows exceptions for students whose parents have been transferred under government service rules. In such cases, the student can be admitted after August 31, provided all necessary documents reach the concerned CBSE Regional Office within two days of admission via the Harkara system. This ensures that students facing relocation do not miss out on academic opportunities.

Importance of compliance

CBSE has emphasised that all stakeholders, including school managements, principals, teachers, students, and parents, must strictly adhere to these deadlines. Timely compliance is crucial to:

  • Avoid last-minute administrative confusion.
  • Ensure proper allocation of subjects and examination registration.
  • Maintain fairness and transparency in the admission process.
  • Enable schools to plan teaching schedules and resources effectively.

Advice for students and parents

CBSE aims to streamline the admission process, minimize errors, and ensure that every student can begin the academic year smoothly, with their subjects and records accurately reflected in official databases.Students and parents are advised to:

  • Check with their school immediately if they are planning a direct admission or subject change.
  • Ensure all forms and supporting documents are submitted well before the deadline.
  • Keep copies of all submissions for future reference.
  • Parents of students in government service transfers should communicate directly with the Regional Office to meet the two-day submission requirement.
