‘Caught stealing cricket bat’: 14-year-old kills 10-year-old girl in Hyderabad; diary reveals plan to steal Rs 80k, gas leak fire | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Five days after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in her house with 21 stab injuries on her neck and stomach, police nabbed a 14-year-old boy on Friday for allegedly murdering the minor. Cops suspect the boy killed the girl as she spotted him trying to steal a cricket bat from her house.Sources in Cyberabad police told TOI the suspect, a Class X student, was being questioned. An FIR is expected to be registered Saturday.Police have retrieved a notebook from the suspect’s house in which he jotted down details of his plan to commit theft in the victim’s house. In the note, the boy mentioned his intention to steal Rs 80,000 in cash and subsequently cause a gas cylinder leak to set it ablaze. “However, it appears he changed his plan and decided to only steal the bat,” said a senior officer from Cyberabad.The murder came to light on Aug 18 when the girl’s father found her dead at home in Sangeeth Nagar, Kukatpally. Initial investigation revealed the girl was stabbed to death with a knife while she was alone. Her parents were away at work and her younger brother was in school.“Absence of CCTV cameras in the area made the investigation difficult. After questioning multiple persons, we zeroed in on the minor boy, who lives in the neighbourhood,” a police source said.The boy, who occasionally played cricket with the victim’s brother, had seen a bat in the house some time ago. On the day of crime, he allegedly entered the house intending to steal the bat, officers said.“He jumped on to the roof of the victim’s house from the roof of the neighbouring house. He had a knife on him,” said the source, adding, “When the girl screamed for help on seeing him attempting to steal the bat, he killed her by indiscriminately attacking her with the knife.”Police said crime scene recreation was yet to be done. Cops are also verifying the juvenile’s social media accounts.
