The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission has begun the much-awaited mains examination for recruitment to the post of Sub-Inspector in the Bihar Police today, January 18, 2026. The examination, popularly known as the BPSSC Bihar Police SI mains, is being conducted at examination centres across multiple districts of the state under tight security arrangements.According to the commission, the recruitment drive aims to fill vacant Sub-Inspector posts for which lakhs of candidates have applied. The examination process will be held in phases, with another phase scheduled on January 21, 2026. Candidates appearing in the examination have been advised to strictly adhere to all instructions issued by BPSSC.Examination schedule and shiftsTo ensure smooth conduct of the examination, BPSSC has divided the test into two shifts during the day. The first shift is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, while candidates must report at their allotted centres by 8:30 AM. The second shift will take place from 02:30 PM to 04:30 PM, with a reporting time of 01:00 PM. Entry after the gate closing time will not be permitted under any circumstances.Guidelines for candidates at centresBPSSC has issued detailed guidelines to maintain transparency and prevent malpractice during the examination. Candidates must carry their admit card along with a valid photo identity proof such as Aadhaar card, PAN card or voter identity card. The commission has clarified that candidates arriving late will be denied entry without exception.Items barred inside examination hallsElectronic devices including mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches and calculators are strictly prohibited inside the examination centres. Possession of any unauthorised material will lead to immediate cancellation of the candidate’s application. Examinees have also been instructed to fill in their roll number and other details on the OMR sheet carefully, as incorrect entries may result in non-evaluation of the answer sheet.Security measures and monitoring arrangementsThe administration has deployed jammers at all examination venues to block electronic communication. Biometric attendance systems and videography arrangements have been implemented at every centre. A strong police presence has been maintained, while flying squads are carrying out surprise inspections to ensure compliance with prescribed norms throughout the examination process statewide.
