Bomb threat causes panic at Punjab and Haryana high court; premises evacuated

CHANDIGARH: Tension ran high at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday morning after Chandigarh Police received a bomb threat linked to the court premises.In response, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT), bomb disposal squad, and local police swiftly arrived at the scene and began evacuating the building as a safety precaution.Court officials were instructed to clear all courtrooms immediately. Following the emergence of the threat, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) also issued a formal alert to its members.“All members are advised to stay alert. In case any suspicious or unattended objects are noticed on the premises, please inform the office of the High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh, without delay,” said a statement from HCBA Secretary, Gagandeep Jammu.

Members were also asked to vacate the courtrooms promptly. The Bar Association confirmed that proceedings would resume post-lunch at 2 PM.Meanwhile, police personnel and the bomb squad conducted a thorough search of the building, while advocates and other staff exited the premises.
