No stretcher at Bijnor CHC: Injured sanitation worker made to lie on floor for X-ray; DM orders probe

BIJNOR: A 32-year-old sanitation worker with severe injuries was made to lie on the floor for an X-ray at Kiratpur community health centre (CHC) due to the absence of a stretcher near the X-ray machine, prompting outrage among locals after a video surfaced purportedly showing him in that condition and leading the district magistrate to order a probe.Ranjeet Kumar, 32, who suffered leg injuries after his garbage van overturned on top of him on Saturday, was taken to the CHC, where he was allegedly asked to lie on the floor for the scan because a stretcher or proper bed was not available in the X-ray room.Bijnor DM Jasjit Kaur said, “A video has come to our notice via the media. It is said to be that of a CHC in Kiratpur. The CMO has been directed to investigate the matter. If such an incident has happened, then action will be recommended against those responsible.”

Do you think the lack of basic facilities like stretchers in hospitals is a serious issue?

Dr Pramod Deshwal, the CHC in-charge, said, “The patient was referred to Bijnor. Before that, an X-ray was conducted by the staff to check the severity of the fracture in his left leg. The patient was shifted to the X-ray room and he lay on the upper plate of a stretcher (without any stand). Seeing the patient’s inconvenience, he was made to lie on the floor, and the X-ray was done…”This is not the first time Bijnor’s health facilities have drawn criticism. On June 14, a 26-year-old man died during dialysis at the district hospital, allegedly due to a power cut, and it was later found that the generator had no diesel.
