NEW DELHI: The Kishanganj Assembly constituency recorded a robust 79.93% voter turnout on November 11, as the region went to polls in the second phase of Bihar’s ongoing Assembly elections. The overall turnout across the state stood at 66.91%, marking a record surge in participation compared to previous elections.Located in the Seemanchal region, Kishanganj is among Bihar’s 243 Assembly constituencies and is witnessing a close contest between INC’s Qamrul Hoda and BJP’s Sweety Singh.

Congress eyes fourth straight winThe seat is currently held by Ijaharul Husain of the Congress, who is seeking re-election. Husain had won the 2020 Assembly polls, defeating Sweety Singh of the BJP by a slender margin of 1,381 votes, in a high-intensity fight that underscored the constituency’s competitive politics.Earlier, in 2015, Congress candidate Dr Mohammad Jawaid had captured the seat, extending the party’s dominance in the area. The INC has maintained control over Kishanganj since 2010, making it one of its few enduring strongholds in Bihar.Tight margins, fierce battlesDespite Congress’s consistent hold, Kishanganj remains a closely fought constituency, with narrow victory margins reflecting shifting political undercurrents.
