Bihar Class 10 exams marred by chaos: Viral clip shows students scaling walls, using chits & phones, live streaming on FB

PATNA: A Facebook Live broadcast from the handle of one of the officials of Gorakh Prasad Private ITI in Siwan — an examination centre — minutes before the start of the Matriculation examination set the tone for a chaotic opening day of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) exams on Tuesday. The live stream, conducted shortly before the commencement of the paper at the centre in Daraunda block of Maharajganj sub-division in Siwan district, showed students seated inside the examination hall. The footage was later widely shared by several users across social media platforms, raising serious questions about adherence to security protocols, particularly the strict ban on mobile phones inside examination premises. The clip was subsequently deleted. TOI does not independently confirm the authenticity of the viral video.Vikas Kumar, SHO of Daraunda police station, said ITI principal Pankaj Kumar was arrested following a complaint lodged at the police station. “His mobile has also been seized. The viral video was shot from his mobile by the ITI director Prince Singh, who was absconding after the matter came to light. The police are conducting raids for his arrest,” he told TOI.Maharajganj sub-divisional officer-cum-super zonal magistrate Anita Sinha immediately reached the centre and initiated an inquiry. “The video was taken before the exam began. A preliminary investigation revealed that the video was not made by any candidate,” she said. The disorder was not confined to Siwan. Across districts, late-arriving students resorted to risky measures to gain entry. In Patna, a student at Devipad Choudhary Shaheed Smarak Miller High School attempted to scale a 10-foot boundary wall but was intercepted by security personnel and denied entry through the main gate due to late arrival. At Gardanibagh Girls Higher Secondary School, a girl was seen climbing the gate to enter the premises. Similar incidents were reported in other districts. In Buxar, a student managed to scale the centre’s boundary wall and enter. In Begusarai, three students climbed walls to gain access. At VM Inter College centre in Gopalganj, around five to six girls reportedly entered by scaling the boundary. In Munger’s NC Ghosh Plus Two High School in Jamalpur, another student jumped the wall to join the examination. In Siwan, a late-arriving student was denied entry and climbed onto the school gate before family members persuaded her to come down.In Bettiah, students who failed to reach their centre on time broke down outside the gates, with family members attributing the delay to traffic congestion. At Keshav Kanya School examination centre in Madhepura, a student waiting in a queue fainted and was assisted by police personnel deployed at the site.Cheating attempts further compounded the irregularities. Outside a centre in Munger, a video purportedly showed two students engaged in a suspicious exchange — one appearing to consult a cellphone and what looked like a question paper, while the other concealed chits in his trousers.
