Bengaluru Stabbing: Woman stabbed twice, chants shlokas, plays dead; ex-driver & gang loots home, neighbours nab one | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: An ex-driver, along with two of his accomplices, targeted his former employer’s house to steal valuables and stabbed an elderly woman in the back, ransacked the house and leisurely left after the woman played dead.Despite blood oozing out from the deep wounds caused by twin knife attacks, she hobbled to the main door and screamed, “Kalla, kalla” (thief, thief). One of three assailants was nabbed by alert neighbours. The night of terror unfolded when Kanakapushpa, 65, heard a knock on her door Sunday night. She had not ordered food, but the delivery boy insisted: “Your son has ordered it for you.” Trusting him, she opened the door. In nanosecond, three assailants — all dressed alike — stormed into the house in BSK III Stage Syndicate Bank Colony around 9.30 pm and demanded she show the cupboards and almirahs where her son, realtor Rahul, had kept cash and jewellery. They threatened her with dire consequences if she made noise. They pushed her on to the sofa after gagging her mouth. She told them she did not have the keys as Rahul had taken them when he stepped out. One of the miscreants stabbed her in the neck with a knife to make her speak. At this juncture, her son’s recently fired driver, Madiwala alias Maddy, entered. Though in pain, the woman joined the dots and realised Maddy was the robbery mastermind. He removed the gag and instructed her, “If you scream, I’ll slit your throat. Tell me where the cupboard key is.” Kanakapushpa said she did not have the keys. The robbers gagged her again and one of them stabbed her a second time — this time, the gash was deep, more brutal. As blood gushed out, the woman began chanting shlokas, then went quiet, eyes shut and breath held — lying motionless. Maddy and his aides broke the cupboard with rods, picked valuables and came to the hall by 10.45pm. Maddy asked an aide to check if Kanakapushpa was dead. One of them poked her head. She didn’t flinch. Believing she was dead, they walked out. That was when Kanakapushpa alerted the neighbours. Preliminary investigations said Maddy had been fired from the job by Rahul, who was tired of his frequent demands for money.
