KOLKATA: The 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Shanta Pal, who was arrested from her rented accommodation in Bikramgarh on charges of possessing multiple fake Indian identity documents on Wednesday, had been running a food vlog. She was a former crew member with a Bangladeshi airline. Later, she turned to modelling, acting and digital content creation, cops said on Thursday. She had reportedly posted content on her vlog as late as June. “We want to know how she got the Aadhaar and voter cards. Her social media posts are being studied for leads,” said an officer.A Barishal native, Pal had been living in Kolkata with her parents on a valid Bangladeshi passport before attempting to acquire Indian identity documents through illegal means. Initial probe suggests that she may have been seeking alternative means to travel abroad. The cops contacted multiple govt bodies in India – including Aadhaar authorities and the Election Commission – to verify the Indian documents recovered from her. She was arrested after multiple Bangladeshi passports in her name, an ID card from a Bangladeshi airline, a secondary education admit card from Dhaka and fake Indian documents were found in her Jadavpur residence. Police said Pal initially rented accommodation in the Park Street area after arriving from Dhaka several months ago. She later moved to a third-floor flat in Bikramgarh, Jadavpur, under the Golf Green Police Station limits. According to sources, the woman’s Aadhaar card was issued in 2020 using an address in Burdwan. The accused won the ‘Miss Asia Global Bangladesh’ beauty pageant title in Bangladesh. She also filed a complaint of fraud at the Thakurpukur Police Station, claimed sources. Sources also claimed that Pal’s husband is a resident of Andhra Pradesh. Probe is on to ascertain how the duo met before marriage.
