He expressed gratitude for India’s artistic freedom and highlighted his diverse musical projects, emphasizing his deep connection to his homeland and its rich culture. Rahman’s clarification follows social media criticism.

Oscar-winning AR Rahman has been facing strong backlash after his remark on “communal” bias in the Hindi film industry. Many people criticised him on social media. After days of silence, the ‘Vande Matram’ singer decided to speak for himself. He took to his social media handle where he explained his thoughts. He said he never meant to hurt anyone and his words were misunderstood.

AR Rahma’s video message

The musical maestro took to his Instagram handle, where in the video, he said, “Dear friends, music has always been my way of connecting, celebrating and honouring a culture.” He added, “India is my inspiration, my teacher, and my home.” AR Rahman said he understands that sometimes intentions are misunderstood. He clearly said, “I have never wished to cause pai,n and I hope my sincerity is felt.” He also said he feels blessed to be an Indian. According to him, India gives artists freedom of expression and respects many cultures and voices.
