Analyst uses Gemini for 'snow tips', Google CEO Sundar Pichai responds; explains: This is ...

Google has been rolling out new features to the Gemini app to expand its functionality for users. Analyst Max Weinbach recently showcased Gemini’s beta Personal Intelligence feature that pulls details from a user’s Gmail about a recent Aerynx Winter Gloves purchase to answer if they’re suitable for snow. Sharing a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Weinbach praised Gemini’s feature writing “This is actually pretty cool from Gemini”. The post caught the attention of Google CEO Sundar Pichai who acknowledged Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature. “This is a great use case for personal intelligence in Gemini app (for pro users)!,” Pichai wrote, quoting the analyst’s post.As per the screenshot shared in the X post, the analyst asked Gemini: “Are the gloves I just ordered good for snow?”. To this, Gemini replied:“The Aerynx Winter Gloves you ordered are a solid choice for moderate cold and light snow, but they aren’t fully waterproof. They feature a water-repellent outer layer that can handle light flurries or road spray, but for heavy, wet snow or prolonged exposure, they may eventually soak through. These gloves are rated best for temperatures between 32°F and 50°F. With the major storm predicted for Westport this Sunday expected to bring significant accumulation and colder temperatures, you might find these are better suited as liners under a waterproof shell or for shorter tasks like clearing off the car rather than long periods of shoveling.”

What is Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature

Announced by the company early this month, Personal Intelligence connects the Gemini app to your Google apps to provide more personalized suggestions. It connects Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search in a single tap. Personal Intelligence has two core strengths: reasoning across complex sources and retrieving specific details from, say, an email or photo to answer your question. It often combines these, working across text, photos and video to provide uniquely tailored answers. It is currently available in the US through beta to eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Once enabled, it works across Web, Android and iOS and with all of the models in the Gemini model picker. Google says that Personal Intelligence will soon be available to AI Mode in Search.
