Over time, he welcomed five children through two surrogate mothers and anonymous egg donors. Alysa shares the same surrogate mother as her younger triplet siblings – Julia, Joshua, and Justin. Speaking to the San Francisco chronicle, Arthur explained that he had always wanted children and felt the time was right to start a family. When Alysa was young, she became curious about her background and asked why she looked different and did not resemble a typical Chinese child. Arthur told her the truth about her birth in 2013. His family lived without electricity. He later moved to a bigger city for school and earned higher degrees before going to California.
