AHMEDABAD: Fourteen-year-old Akash Patni was sleeping under a tree near his family’s tea stall near the BJ Medical College hostel building in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar, when a cruel twist of fate made him a statistic in one of aviation’s worst disasters.“Akash was sleeping under a tree near the stall,” said his aunt Chandaben on Friday, outside the civil hospital’s post-mortem room, waiting with other relatives. “First, a large metal piece fell on Akash’s head, and then he was engulfed in flames.” Sitaben sustained severe burns while trying to save Akash. She is in hospital.
