After Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary called Elon Musk idiot, Europe's largest airline is holding 'Great Idiots Seat' sale; says: Perhaps Musk needs ...

Europe’s largest airline, Ryanair Holdings has turned its war of words with Tesla CEO Elon Musk into a full-blown marketing stunt. The company shared a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) unveiling a cheekily titled “Great Idiots Seat Sale” after CEO Michael O’Leary branded the Tesla chief an “idiot.” The reason for this online feud: Ryanair’s refusal to invest in Starlink like its rival Lufthansa has and Tesla CEO saying that the airlines will lose customers if they don’t give Wi-Fi on planes. O’Leary flatly rejected Starlink service for which company rivals are racing to install across their fleets, citing a “2% fuel penalty” that he refuses to pass on to travelers. Notably, Ryanair is a short-distance airline for budget-conscious customers, with fares starting from 15 pounds.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary vs Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Earlier this week, Ryanair announced via X that O’Leary will hold a press conference in Dublin to “address/undress” Musk’s latest online “tantrum.” The airline boss didn’t hold back, quipping: “Musk knows even less about airline ownership rules than he does about aircraft aerodynamics.”“RYANAIR CEO TO ADDRESS/UNDRESS ELON MUSK TWITTER TANTRUM AT DUBLIN PRESS CONFERENCE at 10:00 tomorrow (Wed, Jan) in Dublin to address(undress??) Elon Musk’s latest Twitshit. “Musk knows even less about airline ownership rules than he does about aircraft aerodynamics”, said MOL. Perhaps Musk needs a break?? Ryanair is launching a Great 100,000 seator wand any other dots on Buy now before Musk gets one!!!,” wrote the company.

The “Great Idiots” sale

Capitalizing on the viral spat, Ryanair rolled out a limited-time promotion: 100,000 seats priced at €16.99 one way, aimed at Musk and “other idiots on X.” In its post, the airline joked: “Perhaps Musk needs a break… book your seat now before Musk gets one.”This move from Rynair comes after repeated jabs from Musk, who recently called O’Leary “an utter idiot” for rejecting Starlink satellite internet on Ryanair’s fleet, citing fuel efficiency concerns. Musk escalated the feud by launching a poll on X asking if he should buy Ryanair and restore ‘Ryan’ as its rightful ruler.
