HAVERI: Law-enforcement officers in Hangal caught three more suspects who participated in the celebrations and a roadshow following their bail in a gang rape case on Saturday, bringing the total numer of arrests to seven.While four suspects were detained on Friday, three individuals — Madarasab Mandakki, 23, Aftab Chandakatti, 24, and Tousif Choti, 24 — fled. However, they were subsequently caught at Shiralkoppa in Shivamogga district.All the seven suspects were presented before the taluk magistrate on Saturday evening. Hangal police confiscated several vehicles used for the roadshow, including a Thar, a Chevrolet, a Ford vehicle, and a Royal Enfield motorcycle, and examined their locations for mahazar.Supporters of the accused conducted a celebratory procession at Akki Alur town of Haveri — from the sub-jail to Akki Alur — in motorcycles and cars. They had also displayed victory gestures while their supporters raised slogans, much to the chagrin of the public. Legal professionals said the accused breached their bail conditions.The accused have been sent to judicial custody till June 2.The police on Friday responded promptly by registering cases against all the primary suspects in the gang rape case after videos of the celebration and the roadshow surfaced o social media.
