Ahead of fog season, aviation minister orders stricter fog SOPs; real-time coordination for winter operations

NEW DELHI: Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday held a detailed review meeting with aviation authorities and airlines to assess preparedness for the winter fog period, a crucial operational window that precedes the ongoing IndiGo disruption.In a post on X, the minister said, “Chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to assess preparedness for the upcoming fog window of the winter schedule with all key stakeholders including DGCA, AAI, airport operators, airlines and CISF.” He added that all agencies had been directed to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures for fog operations.

“All stakeholders have been instructed to ensure full compliance, fix accountability and implement strict SOPs for fog operations,” he said, stressing the need for coordinated action. The minister highlighted that smooth functioning during low-visibility conditions would depend on real-time data exchange, activation of war rooms and deployment of CAT II and CAT III compliant aircraft with qualified crew.He said, “Clear directions have been issued to ensure safe, seamless and well-coordinated operations, along with timely communication of updates to passengers to help them prepare well in advance.” Emphasising the need for accountability across the aviation ecosystem, the minister added, “Each and every passenger is important, and any instance of inconvenience will be addressed with clear accountability.
