Delhi woman among 2 killed as tree falls on them at Tiger Falls in Dehradun

DEHRADUN: Two people, including a tourist from Delhi, were killed evening when a tree fell on them while they were bathing at Tiger Falls, a popular waterfall in Chakrata, Dehradun district, police said on Tuesday. Alka Anand from Delhi’s Shahdara area and Gitaram Joshi, 48, from Chakrata, died on the spot on Monday evening.Chakrata police station in-charge Chandrasekhar Nautiyal, who inspected the spot, said, “Anand had come with her daughter and her fiancé, while Joshi was there with his wife and daughter. They were bathing in the waterfall along with other tourists when a tree came down along with the waterfall from a height of around 60m. The two were hit directly and died on the spot.He added, “Three others who were standing nearby escaped with abrasions. Tourists at the site tried to lift the tree to save them. Later, police reached the spot and took them to a nearby health centre, where doctors declared them dead,” Nautiyal added. Their bodies were handed over to their families after a post-mortem examination.Tiger Falls is considered one of the highest direct waterfalls in India, with a drop of approximately 312 feet. The area is known for its scenic beauty and attracts numerous tourists, especially during the summer months. The waterfall remained open for tourists following the incident, with no immediate restrictions or closures put in place by the local administration.
