SBI branch looted in Karnataka: Gang barges in, ties up staff, flees with Rs 20 crore haul

NEW DELHI: Three masked men allegedly robbed a bank in Vijayapura, Karnataka, making off with cash and gold worth over Rs 20 crore, police said.The suspects, armed with country-made pistols and knives, tied up staff at the State Bank of India branch in Chadchan town before fleeing, officials added. The incident occurred around 6.30pm on Tuesday. “Further investigation is underway and all efforts are being taken to nab the suspects,” Vijaypura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi told PTI. According to police, the men entered the bank under the pretext of opening a current account and threatened the manager, cashier, and other employees with pistols and knives.

The gang tied up the hands and feet of the staff before escaping. The FIR states the robbers stole cash worth more than a crore and gold ornaments weighing around 20kg, valued at approximately Rs 20 crore. Police said a case was registered based on the bank manager’s complaint and teams have been formed to track the suspects. Citing preliminary investigations, Nimbargi said the suspects used a Suzuki EVA vehicle with a fake number plate. After committing the offence, they reportedly headed towards Pandharpur in Maharashtra.
