Kutch woman strangled by sons over suspicion of affair

RAJKOT: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her two sons, one of whom is a minor, in Nana Kadia village of Nakhatrana taluka late on Saturday. Police detained both within hours after they confessed to strangling her over suspicions of an extramarital affair.According to the FIR filed by the victim’s father, the family worked as labourers on a farm for over a year. The farm owner first informed him that his grandsons had strangled their mother. When he reached the spot, he found his daughter dead with marks on her neck.Police said the elder son, 19, and his younger brother alleged that their mother often spoke on the phone late at night and neglected household duties. Enraged after seeing her talking past midnight, they strangled her.Investigating officer A M Makwana said the woman was married for 20 years to a cattle herder, who was away at work when the incident took place. She distanced herself from her husband in recent months, which fuelled the sons’ suspicion. After committing the crime, the brothers remained at the farm and slept there till morning.Nakhatrana police have registered a case under Sections 103(1), 54, and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
