Chhattisgarh reservoir collapse: 4 dead, 3 missing as flash flood hits Balrampur | Raipur News
RAIPUR: Four people were found dead and at least three reported missing after an old reservoir collapsed in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district late on Tuesday. A rescue operation was immediately launched at the site. The bodies of two victims were recovered in the early hours of Wednesday, while the other two were found later.The breach occurred in the Luti reservoir, located in Dhaneshpur village, officials said.
Balrampur collector Rajendra Katara told TOI, “A total of eight members of a family were washed away after the reservoir collapsed. The family was sleeping when their house was destroyed and they were swept away. Three are still missing, including two children. Bodies of two women and two children were recovered from a nearby nullah. One man was rescued by villagers minutes after the incident. Rescue work is still underway in the nearby Kanhar river to locate those missing.”Three other people were shifted to hospital with injuries.The collector added that water from the reservoir, built in the early 1980s, rushed through the breach onto nearby houses and agricultural fields, causing a flash flood.
