Chris Froome’s team said in a statement that the rider was taken to hospital immediately after the crash. “Chris was airlifted to hospital in Toulon yesterday afternoon following a serious training crash [no other cyclists or vehicles were involved]. Fortunately, Chris is stable and did not sustain any head injuries, however, scans have confirmed a pneumothorax, five broken ribs, and a lumbar vertebrae fracture, for which he will undergo surgery this afternoon. We will update on Chris’ condition following surgery,” the message read.Froome, who lives in Monaco, was training near his home when the accident happened. According to reports in French outlet L’Équipe, he was conscious and speaking to medical staff after the crash. The 40-year-old, who is currently part of the Israel–Premier Tech team, is expected to miss the rest of the season.
