Huma Qureshi cousin murdered: ‘Accused brothers known for bad temper, picking fights’ | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Actor Huma Qureshi’s cousin, 42-year-old Asif Qureshi, was brutally stabbed to death, allegedly by two brothers, over a parking dispute in southeast Delhi’s Jangpura on Thursday night. The accused – Ujjawal (21) and Gautam (18) – have been arrested. Police said the incident occurred around 10.45pm, when Ujjawal, a music teacher, returned home from work and parked his scooter outside Qureshi’s house, located in Bhogal. Qureshi requested him to remove it, but Ujjawal ignored him. When Qureshi asked again, Ujjawal allegedly turned aggressive, abusing and threatening him. As the argument escalated, Ujjawal called his younger brother Gautam downstairs, and the duo overpowered and thrashed Qureshi, said police.‘Accused known for bad temper, picking fights’Ujjawal and Gautam had developed a troubling reputation in their neighbourhood for their aggressive behaviour, often picking fights with others over minor issues. Their aunt, Archana, described them as having no control over their anger. “They both had very short tempers,” she said. “Their father and relatives constantly tried to explain things to them and guide them, but they never listened.” She declared that killing Qureshi over a parking dispute in Bhogal was “completely wrong”.Ujjawal, 21, and Gautam, 18, lived on the second floor of the building with their father and seven other family members. They were raised by their father after their mother deserted the family years ago. The father works in a private firm. In his absence, other relatives helped raise the boys.According to police, Ujjawal taught music to children in Lajpat Nagar. However, his family claimed that he mostly sang at local events like kirtans and occasionally played musical instruments. Archana added, “I only knew Ujjawal was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in arts. His younger brother Gautam had dropped out of school.”Another family member noted that even within the family, people avoided engaging with the brothers due to their unpredictable temper. “They rarely spoke with us. Their anger made it difficult to approach them,” he said. Suresh, a local shopkeeper, said, “The two used to wander around the area aimlessly. Gautam seemed even more aggressive than Ujjawal.”Qureshi’s wife, Shaheen, who is a neighbour to the youths, alleged that they both took drugs, which may have contributed to their violent behaviour.Police said Ujjawal left college midway, reportedly under peer pressure. Gautam, who also fell in wrong company, had no stable job and took up odd jobs from time to time.Hemant Tiwari, DCP (South East), confirmed that Gautam had a prior criminal record. “He was involved in a case registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” the officer said.
