‘We got involved directly’: US reiterates India-Pakistan ceasefire claim; Marco Rubio calls Trump ‘president of peace’ | India News

US secretary of state Marco Rubio has claimed that the United States “got involved directly” when India and Pakistan went to war, and that President Donald Trump played a key role in delivering peace between the two nuclear-armed nations.Speaking in an interview with EWTN’s ‘The World Over’ on Thursday, Rubio said, “And so, we saw when India and Pakistan went to war, we got involved directly, and the president was able to deliver on that peace.” He described Trump as committed to peace and called him the “president of peace.”Trump himself has repeatedly said since May 10 that he “helped settle” tensions between India and Pakistan, adding that he had promised both countries that the US would engage in “a lot of trade” with them if they ended the conflict. However, India has consistently maintained that the agreement to stop hostilities with Pakistan came through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries, without any third-party mediation.Rubio also highlighted other global conflicts where he said the Trump administration had played a peacemaking role. These included Cambodia and Thailand, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the decades-long conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. He claimed the US brought representatives from the latter to sign a peace deal.“We dedicate a significant amount of time to stopping and ending wars,” Rubio said, adding that the administration was still focused on bigger challenges such as the war between Russia and Ukraine.
