CHENNAI: Seventeen years after his father was murdered, college student Yuvanesh, now aged 19, murdered his father’s killer Raj Kumar on Wednesday. Yuvanesh was two-years-old father when his father Senthil Kumar was killed by Raj Kumar, 47, a B-category rowdy, in 2008 in Aminjikarai. The TP Chathiram police arrested the youth, along with two others, including a 17-year-old juvenile, on murder charges, on Thursday.Police said there was no indication of any revenge murder till a few days ago, when Raj Kumar taunted Yuvanesh while the latter was with his friends near his home. Raj Kumar reportedly made remarks referring to the 2008 murder of Yuvanesh’s father, thereby provoking him. Agitated by the remarks and driven by a long-standing grudge, Yuvanesh planned the revenge-murder with his friends, police said.On Wednesday, while Raj Kumar was repairing his motorbike outside his residence, Yuvanesh and his associates attacked him with weapons. Raj Kumar initially managed to escape and take refuge in a nearby house. The gang, however, barged into the house and cornered him in the kitchen. Even as the family members having food watched in horror, the assailants hacked Raj Kumar to death and fled.The TP Chathiram police registered a case and formed a special team led by inspector Naseema to trace the culprits. The team arrested Yuvanesh, a first-year BBA student, and his associates Sai Kumar, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, all residents of the same locality. Police said the attack was the result of a long-standing resentment stemming from the murder of Yuvanesh’s father. The recent provocation pushed the youth to plot the revenge-murder.Police have launched a hunt for six more men who are suspected to be part of the gang. The arrested accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The juvenile has been sent to an observation home.
