CRPF vehicle falls into Udhampur gorge, 2 jawans dead

JAMMU: Two CRPF personnel died and 16 others were injured Thursday when a vehicle ferrying them skidded and rolled down a ravine in J&K’s Udhampur.Official sources said the accident took place around 11am when the personnel were returning from an operation in nearby Basantgarh. The deceased jawans were identified as Anand Koach (27) from Meghalaya and Arvind (36) from Bihar.The injured were rushed to Northern Command Hospital in Udhampur. Deputy commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai and other senior officials rushed there and ensured specialised care.“QAT (Quick Action Team) of 137 and 187 Bn CRPF was on the way back to their base. On a narrow road between Punara and Lodhra in Basantgarh area of J&K, the vehicle carrying the party slipped into a gorge,” an CRPF official spokesperson posted on X. CRPF chief GP Singh condoled the “unfortunate demise of the bravehearts in the line of supreme duty to the nation”.J&K Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the jawans’ deaths, writing on X that “we will never forget their exemplary service to the nation”. “My thoughts are with bereaved families. Praying for speedy recovery of the injured.”Union minister and Kathua-Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh echoed the sentiments, noting the prompt rescue and lauding locals who rushed to help.Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi described the deaths as “distressing”. “My deepest condolences. The nation will always remain indebted to our brave jawans and their familiesI pray for the speedy recovery of the injured jawans,” she posted on X.
