Khalid Jamil appointed India men's football team manager, first Indian in 13 years

Khalid Jamil has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian national men’s football team, making history as the first Indian in 13 years to hold this prestigious position. The All India Football Federation’s executive committee selected the 48-year-old former India international on Friday from a three-person shortlist.Jamil, who currently manages Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC, is best known for leading Aizawl Football Club to their remarkable I-League title victory in 2017.The selection process involved a shortlist created by the AIFF Technical Committee, led by former striker IM Vijayan. The other candidates considered were former India head coach Stephen Constantine and ex-Slovakia national team manager Stefan Tarkovic.Jamil takes over from Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who stepped down last month following India’s recent poor performances.The last Indian national team head coach was Savio Medeira, who served in the role from 2011 to 2012.Jamil’s tenure will begin with the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup, scheduled to take place in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from August 29.
