Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may get a ‘display upgrade’

Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 17 series in September this year. While the exact launch date is yet to be announced, going by the past events, it is likely that the company may host an event in the first week of September. The 2025 iPhone lineup is rumoured to offer four devices – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and the all-new slim model that may be called iPhone 17 Air. Nevertheless, the rumour mill has been churning leaks around the upcoming iPhone models. The latest is an upgraded display technology for Pro models this year. According to a report by MacRumours, Apple may finally bring scratch resistant anti-reflective displays with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The report quotes an unnamed source who said Apple suppliers have been able to achieve a high enough yield on the anti-reflective glass to support mass production. However, the upgraded display will not be coming with the standard iPhone 17 model and the Air model. The current iPhone models come with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating and Ceramic Shield. But unlike iPads and Macs, Apple hasn’t focused much on reducing screen glare on iPhones. The new anti-reflective display is said to be more resistant to scratches than the current Ceramic Shield. This feature was first rumored in 2024 and could help the phone handle daily wear better.Earlier this year, Apple faced problems making the new coating on a large scale. The process was slow and difficult, leading to concerns that the feature might be dropped. However, improvements in production have brought the display back into consideration.
iPhone 17 Pro expected features
A report by The Information previously said that the iPhone 17 Pro may come with a redesigned rear panel composed of both aluminum and glass. It may feature an aluminum rear panel, housing a camera bump, bigger than the one found on the iPhone 16 Pro models. The report further added that the iPhone 17 Pro may come with an aluminium frame, replacing the titanium frame like their predecessors. On the specifications part, the phone may come powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process. iPhone 17 Pro is said to offer 12GB of RAM, up from the iPhone 16 Pro’s 8GB. For camera duties, it may have a 48MP telephoto lens, replacing the 12MP sensor found in the iPhone 16 Pro. For selfies, the smartphone is tipped to have a 24MP sensor.
