Two Andhra intel officers killed in Telangana accident

HYDERABAD: Two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) from the Andhra Pradesh intelligence security wing (ISW) died, while an additional SP and a head constable were injured on Saturday when their SUV rammed the median of National Highway-65, flipped and crashed into an oncoming truck on the other side of the road, at Choutuppal.They were on way to Hyderabad from Vijayawada to supervise AP ISW’s Hyderabad contingent routine firing and physical fitness tests that are conducted at Moinabad and Khairatabad. The deceased were identified as M Chakradhar Rao (52), from Goshamahal and J Shanta Rao (56), from Hayathnagar. Shanta Rao was part of the special security group (SSG) that takes care of the CM’s security. The rest were ISW staff entrusted with the security of other political leaders, including ministers. Those injured are additional SP K D M V R Prasad (56), from Hydershakote and R Narasimha Raju (54), head constable from Kompally.Assistant commissioner of police, Choutuppal, P Madhusudhan Reddy said the accident occurred around 4.30am. The Scorpio, driven by Narasimha Raju, hit the divider at Khaitapur on NH 65. “The victims got stuck in the mangled Scorpio. Our team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured driver and the additional SP, sitting in the front co-passenger seat, to a nearby private hospital. The two DSPs sitting in the middle seat died on the spot,” the ACP said.AP additional director general (ADG), Intelligence, Mahesh Chandra Laddha told TOI the condition of the additional SP and the head constable was stable.Inspector-general (IG), ISW, PHD Rama Krishna said the officers were on way to Hyderabad to supervise an internal test at the office of the IG, ISW, Hyderabad. The victims’ families were based in Hyderabad, and they had also planned to spend the weekend with them.Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu said, the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. “We have an accident analysis prevention team (AAPT) in the commissionerate that visits all fatal road accident spots. We noticed a gap in the median nearby. Also, the illumination was also not adequate. We have asked NHAI to put up a high mast light at the spot and connect the blinking amber light at the divider opening to the electrical line instead of solely relying on solar power,” he said.The Choutuppal police said the accident might have happened when the head constable tried to avoid a truck that had suddenly stopped or slowed down and lost control.On the complaint of DSP Shanta Rao’s son, J Bala Gangadhar Tilak, a police case was registered against unknown persons under BNS sections 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) and 125(a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others).After the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the families.
