‘He would have thrived’: Australia captain on India’s missing player on England tour; on ‘hostile’ environment at Lord’s | Cricket News

India were forced to admit defeat at the hands of a relentless England bowling attack on Monday at Lord’s. The hosts, charged by their skipper Ben Stokes and the blistering deliveries of Jofra Archer, made sure that India fell short of the 193-run target to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The win for England means that India are now faced with a must-win situation in the 4th Test.Looking back at India’s defeat in a game that saw Gautam Gambhir’s men play impressive cricket for a significant part of the game, Australia women’s team captain Alyssa Healy made a cutting remark on the Indian team. Speaking on the “Willow Talk” podcast alongside Adam Peacock, the skipper reminded India what they’ve been missing and it was no surprise that Virat Kohli‘s name came up. The former Indian skipper and No 3 called time on his red-ball career shortly before the squad was announced for the Test series against England. While his retirement did not take center stage in the first two Tests in the series given India’s sublime batting, the defeat in the 3rd, which saw India fail to chase the 193-run target highlighted what the side was missing, according to Healy.
“I probably shouldn’t say this for the sake of the current Indian team, but it made me miss Virat Kohli a little bit, because I would imagine him absolutely thriving in that environment, trying to save a Test match. He would have been absolutely frothing to be a part of that,” said Healy. The Test at Lord’s birthed several tense and heated moments between the two sides, with sarcastic jibes, passionate celebrations and raging comments taking the spotlight. India skipper Shubman Gill lost his cool to England opener Zak Crawley for his time-wasting tactics, saying “Get some balls, show f—ing balls!”

Gill too, was taken aim at, when Ben Duckett sarcastically said that he has made 600 runs in the series and won’t be scoring any more. The India captain had a rather subdued performance with the bat, scoring just 16 and 6 over the two innings.
