‘What was Radhika Yadav’s mom doing at the time of incident’: Uncle says victim’s mother on same floor when shooting happened; Cops probe all angles | Gurgaon News

NEW DELHI: Police say they are examining all possible angles in the murder of 25-year-old former tennis player Radhika Yadav, including the role of her mother, who was reportedly present in the house when the shooting took place, news agency PTI reported. Radhika was shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their family home in Gurugram’s Sector 57 on Thursday morning. He later confessed to the killing and was arrested from the house. An FIR filed by the victim’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, states that Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, was on the first floor of the house at the time of the incident, according to PTI.Kuldeep, who lives on the ground floor with his family, said he heard a loud noise around 10.30am and rushed upstairs, where he found Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. A licensed revolver, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the drawing room. Kuldeep and his son Piyush took Radhika to a hospital in Sector 56, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police had earlier said the incident occurred around 2pm and that Radhika’s mother was on the ground floor, rushing up after mistaking the gunshots for a pressure cooker blast. The conflicting versions have prompted police to closely examine who was where during the shooting. A police official said they were also looking into possible tensions within the family. “We are investigating all angles, including what the mother was doing when the incident happened,” the officer said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Radhika had featured in a music video last year alongside an independent artist and police said this might have contributed to family tensions. Officially, police have said the dispute appeared to be over the tennis academy Radhika ran nearby. “She used to run a tennis academy, and her father was not happy with it,” said Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Singh. According to sources, Deepak Yadav was allegedly upset about being taunted for living off his daughter’s income. The FIR notes that only Deepak, his wife and Radhika were on the first floor when the shooting occurred. Their son Dheeraj was not at home at the time.Radhika was ranked 1999 by the International Tennis Federation and had played in qualifying rounds at tournaments in Indore and Kuala Lumpur earlier this year. She had taken up coaching after an injury ended her competitive career. Police are continuing their investigation.
