‘Paisa double’ trap: How Bengaluru woman used kitty parties as bait; 30 duped of Rs 5 crore | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A 49-year-old woman who built a web of lies around kitty parties, gold imports and high-return investments, was arrested for allegedly cheating her social circle of over Rs 5 crore. The accused, Savita G, a resident of Kirloskar Colony in Basaveshwaranagar, was picked up by police along with her alleged accomplice, Puneet P of Sunakadakatte. At least two FIRs have been registered against Savita — at Govindarajanagar and Basaveshwaranagar police stations — detailing how she lured multiple women from financially strong backgrounds and siphoned off crores of rupees under the pretext of investing their money. A local court Wednesday remanded both accused in five-day police custody. Investigators said Savita’s strategy was to blend into affluent circles by posing as a social worker, realtor and gold trader with strong political connections. “She reached out to women on social media, especially those with active social lives and disposable income. Savita claimed she imported gold from abroad and offered to double their money through real estate investments and business ventures,” an officer said.Savita would often host kitty parties, either at her home or elsewhere, to win over her customers. In these informal gatherings, she would claim access to cheap foreign gold, private TV tenders and high-value property deals.“Many of the victims were convinced by her confidence and networking skills. Some handed over cash, others made online transfers. Puneet would then help encash these funds, which were diverted into gold purchases and household goods. But in reality, she was quietly built up a chit-fund business in Basaveshwaranagar,” the officer added. Her luck ran out when investors began demanding returns after more than a year. Unable to repay or fulfil the promised interests, Savita started facing pressure. Eventually, nearly 30 women filed police complaints, exposing the fraud.
