Gunmen kill Punjab businessman: Abohar showroom owner Sanjay Verma shot dead; protests erupt in market | Chandigarh News

BATHINDA: Sanjay Verma, a prominent businessman and co-owner of the renowned tailoring showroom New Wear Well, was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside his store in Abohar’s main market on Monday morning.Verma had just arrived at the showroom when three armed men approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene on a parked motorcycle. Sanjay was taken to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.New Wear Well, jointly run by Sanjay and his elder brother Jagat Verma, is widely known across Punjab for its custom tailoring of kurta-pyjamas.While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, family members stated that Verma had no known enmity or threats. Police arrived at the scene soon after and have launched an investigation into the killing. CCTV footage is being examined, and efforts are on to identify the suspects.The incident has sparked widespread anger among the local business community. In protest, shopkeepers in Abohar closed their establishments and demanded justice.Reacting to the murder, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, who hails from Abohar, and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal both condemned the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.The incident follows closely on the heels of another shocking attack just three days earlier, when two individuals posing as patients fired at Punjabi actress Tania’s stepfather, Dr Aniljit Kamboj, in Kot Ise Khan, Moga district.
