NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with his Mauritian counterpart, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, where the two leaders exchanged views on further strengthening the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership and discussed regional developments.“Pleased to speak with my friend, Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We exchanged views on further strengthening India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership and regional developments. Mauritius remains a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and our Neighbourhood First policy,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X following the talks.During their conversation, both leaders underlined the special and unique ties between India and Mauritius and reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the Enhanced Strategic Partnership.The two prime ministers reviewed ongoing cooperation across several key areas, including development partnership, capacity building, defence, maritime security, digital infrastructure, and people-to-people ties.Prime Minister Modi expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s enthusiastic participation in the 11th International Day of Yoga.He also reiterated India’s strong commitment to supporting Mauritius’ development priorities, aligned with Vision MAHASAGAR and India’s Neighbourhood First policy.Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Prime Minister Ramgoolam for an early visit to India, and both leaders agreed to remain in close contact.Earlier in March, Prime Minister Modi had visited Mauritius for a two-day state visit.After concluding his visit, PM Modi took to social media to convey his gratitude. “I thank PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the people and Government of Mauritius for the warmth,” he posted on X.During this trip, PM Modi was the chief guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations for the second time, the first being in 2015.As part of the celebrations, President of the Republic of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool conferred the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’ (GCSK) award on Prime Minister Modi. It is the highest civilian honour in Mauritius.This marked the first time an Indian leader received this prestigious award.
