Panna’s heera story: Woman finds 2.69 carat diamond; mining office awaits auction

BHOPAL: After toiling hard for two years to find a diamond, a poor woman hit a jackpot of sorts when she found a 2.69-carat diamond at a private mine in Panna district. The woman has deposited the gem at a local mining office and the same will be put up for auction as per norms.“The proceeds from the sale will be given to her after deducting the royalty and taxes,” district diamond examiner, Anupam Singh, told TOI. “The woman deposited it on Monday,” he added.The lucky woman who found the diamond was toiling hard for the past two years. The current patta (lease) in Sakaria village, where she found the 2.69-carat diamond, was taken by her around a month ago.Talking to local media persons, she said, “I have been toiling hard for the past two years. This time I got it. I am feeling good. God listened to me at last.”The spot where the diamond was found is situated in the Chopra Mine area under Sakaria village panchayat.
