Dressed as inspector, 20-year-old visits Kolkata police station to impress girlfriend; claims he got promoted in 3 years | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: A 20-year-old man, Diptendu Bag, impersonating a Bengal Police inspector was arrested on Friday at Entally Police Station. Bag, a resident of Malirdhar in the Canning area, entered the Entally police station around 10.15 am wearing a police uniform with ‘Inspector of West Bengal Police’ written on it. He was accompanied by his girlfriend. Officers became suspicious when they noticed Bag saluting everyone, disregarding hierarchical protocol. Upon questioning, his inconsistent responses further confirmed the officers’ doubts.“He was impersonating an inspector in the anti-terror squad of CID. He could not explain why he was wearing a uniform. He even told Entally cops that he got promoted to the rank of inspector in only three years, created futher doubts,” said Rupesh Kumar, joint CP (crime & traffic). During interrogation, Bag claimed he was visiting the police station to thank an officer who helped him after his wallet was stolen a few days ago. However, he failed to provide an explanation for wearing a police uniform. An officer said that preliminary investigation suggests Bag may have impersonated an officer to impress his girlfriend.
