KANPUR: In a dramatic turn of events, a man of Hamirpur who had performed the funeral rites of a body he believed to be his missing minor daughter was stunned to learn on Monday that she was alive and living with her alleged lover .According to police, the case dates back to June 7, when a girl’s body was recovered from beneath the Bundelkhand Expressway near the Bira Kachhwa link road under Jariya police station limits. The following day, a resident of Bihuni village under the Muskara police station area identified the body as his 17-year-old daughter who had gone missing.After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family, which proceeded to perform the last rites. On June 9, the girl’s father lodged a complaint, accusing two fellow villagersof abducting and murdering his daughter.However, on June 17, police located the girl alive staying with a youth believed to be her lover.Station officer Mayank Chandel said, “The father mistakenly identified an unknown body as that of his daughter based on physical resemblance. The girl has now been recovered and will undergo medical examination. Her statement will also be recorded.”Police have now launched an investigation to establish the identity of the girl whose body was cremated. Authorities are in contact with nearby districts to trace missing persons matching the description of the unidentified deceased
