MUMBAI: The mortal remains of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, one of the pilots who lost his life in the ill-fated Air India flight crash, were brought to his residence in Powai on Tuesday.A sombre atmosphere gripped the area as family, friends, and neighbours gathered to pay their respects. Captain Sabharwal’s father, Pushkaraj Sabharwal, offered a heartfelt tribute to his son outside their home, moved by grief and pride.Captain Sabharwal perished in the devastating crash that took place on June 12 when the aircraft headed to London crashed after departing from Ahmedabad.

Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi announced on Monday that authorities had successfully matched DNA samples of 125 victims from the Air India disaster, with families of 124 deceased being notified. The authorities released 83 victims’ remains to their respective families.The minister conducted a visit to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where teams from FSL and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) were carrying out DNA analysis of the deceased.The Indian High Commission in London organised a memorial service for the victims of Air India AI171 crash. Of the 242 people aboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, 241 lost their lives.Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British citizen of Indian descent, emerged as the sole survivor and is currently receiving medical treatment.
