NEW DELHI: Police have launched an investigation after two sisters were found dead in their home in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Thursday evening. The deaths came to light around 6 pm when the local police station received a call from a relative who said the family was not opening the door. Police officers broke open the door, which was locked from inside, and found the bodies in separate rooms. One sister was found with a pillow covering her face, while the other’s body had ligature marks on the neck, indicating she had been strangled. One sister was 33 years old, while the other was 28. The girls’ mother was found unconscious in one of the rooms. She was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she is undergoing treatment. Preliminary police investigation suggests that the mother may have killed the daughters before attempting to take her own life. The crime team and the forensic science laboratory unit were summoned to the spot. While the motive behind the suspected double murder and attempted suicide remains unknown, authorities have registered a case and are questioning neighbours and relatives. The bodies have been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
