The US Embassy in India has shared an advisory issued by the US Department of State, urging Americans to exercise increased caution due to potential security risks. The message advises US citizens to stay alert and remain informed about local developments, especially in regions facing instability or conflict. “The U.S. Department of State advises all Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution due to potential security risks. Stay informed by monitoring local news for updates, avoid areas of active conflict, and use extra care when near military or security forces,” says X post shared by US Embassy in India.

US advises Americans to follow these WhatsApp channels

The advisory, issued for US citizens within the country and abroad, encourages Americans to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The program allows US citizens traveling or living abroad to receive the latest security alerts and makes it easier for the government to contact them in case of an emergency.In addition, Americans can follow the “U.S. Department of State – Security Updates for U.S. Citizens” WhatsApp channel for timely notifications related to safety and travel.“All U.S. citizens whether in the United States or abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at https://step.state.gov to receive the latest security alerts. You can also follow the “U.S. Department of State – Security Updates for U.S. Citizens” channel on WhatsApp for timely notifications,” the post reads. “When planning any travel, carefully review the relevant Travel Advisory, country-specific information, and recent alerts on the official site: https://travel.state.gov/en/international-travel.html,” it added.The advisory comes following US-Israeli airstrikes that killed Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, leading to heightened tensions in Middle East.
