Ron Duguay is facing the toughest fight of his life. The former New York Rangers star, who is now dating former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has been diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. The news became public after his family created a GoFundMe page asking for $26,000 to help cover his medical and travel costs. According to the fundraiser, Ron Duguay has been battling cancer for about a year. His daughter, Shay Duguay, shared that he has not been able to work the way he normally does because of the illness. Earlier in his treatment, care he received in Florida “nearly cost him his life,” she wrote. Because of that, his daughters moved him to Orange County, California, where they live, so he could receive safer treatment. Page Six also reported that the 68-year-old was first diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Since then, he has lost both his appendix and gallbladder during surgeries linked to his condition.

Ron Duguay now travels from Florida to Orange County every two weeks for ongoing treatment. His daughter explained on the GoFundMe page that “the cost of constant travel, along with medical care, holistic therapies, supplements, and alternative healing approaches he has committed to, has become extremely overwhelming financially.”The fundraiser also says the family is considering treatment options outside the United States to give him the best chance to recover. However, those options are “very expensive and add another layer of financial strain during an already difficult time.” So far, the page has raised nearly $20,000.In an interview with Page Six, Duguay admitted it was not easy to ask for help. “I find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I’m going through,” he said. “Normally I’m helping others.”Duguay, who also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Los Angeles Kings, and later worked as a studio analyst on MSG Network from 2007 to 2018, posted a video on Instagram. The clip shows him in hospital beds, using a walker, and spending time with family and Sarah Palin. The caption reads, “He is doing everything he possibly can.” It adds that he is continuing City of Hope’s chemo protocol while also trying several holistic treatments and has undergone major surgery on both his liver and colon. “He is all in. Every single day. And through it all, his faith has never wavered.”
