‘Failed to write 1 to 50’: Father beats child to death with rolling pin in Faridabad

GURGAON: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl was beaten to death by her father, who repeatedly struck her with a rolling pin and slammed her onto the floor because she failed to write 1-50 correctly.Krishna Jaiswal (31) was arrested on Friday after his wife filed a police complaint. The incident happened on Wednesday at their rented house in Faridabad’s Jhadsentli, where the family had moved from Sonbhadra in UP.

Police said after thrashing Vanshika, Jaiswal took her to hospital and told his wife Ranjita that their daughter had fallen down the stairs while playing in an attempt to conceal the assault. Their seven-year-old son, who was home at the time of the incident, later told his mother about his sister getting a battering. Ranjita, who also found injury marks on Vanshika’s body, informed the police.“The child suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead at the hospital. His wife came directly from her office to hospital. Jaiswal also told doctors the same story,” a police officer said.A murder case was registered against Jaiswal under BNS Section 103(1) at Sector 58 police station in Faridabad. He was taken on a day’s remand for questioning to establish the sequence of events and verify statements from family members and neighbours.Police said both parents work for a private firm in alternating shifts. The mother works the day shift, while Jaiswal works nights and stays home during the day to care for the children. The girl was not enrolled in school and was taught at home by her father, police said.The couple has two other children. Both were home at the time of the incident. Police said they are recording statements of relatives and neighbours to reconstruct what had happened. “The child’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and the cause of death is being corroborated with medical findings. Further probe is under way,” Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal said.
