NEW DELHI: Ahead of the India-EU summit next week, external affairs minister S Jaishankar met ambassadors of EU countries and stressed that the bilateral partnership will stabilise the global order through stronger trade, mobility and security ties. Jaishankar said in a post on X that he had spoken to the ambassadors about the current state of the world, which is witnessing volatility and instability as the new normal. “Made a case for stronger India-EU relations that will derisk the world economy by cooperating on resilient supply chains and reassure the international community by providing public goods like HADR, anti-piracy operations, development projects etc,” he said. The summit on Jan 27 is expected to see an announcement by both sides of successful conclusion of FTA talks, the signing of a defence and security partnership and another agreement to promote mobility. The presidents of the European Commission and European Council — Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa, respectively — will arrive here on Jan 25 for the summit. They will also attend the Republic Day parade as chief guests. “Excellent exchange with EAM @DrSJaishankar with Team EU/27 Ambassadors reflecting the high convergence of interests & the strategic value of our growing EU/bilateral partnerships with India: benefits are mutual & global. All eyes on next week’s EU-India Summit & its deliverables,” said EU ambassador to India Herve Delphin.
