‘Maduro in jail, but not Putin’: Zelenskyy suggests Russian president should be arrested

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said that Venezuela’s Maduro is in jail while his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, is free. While speaking at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Trump said that the man who started the war is not just free but is also fighting for his frozen money in Europe.“Lets look at the Western Hemisphere. President Trump led an operation in Venezuela and Madura was arrested. And there were different opinions about it, but the fact remains, Madura is on trial in New York. Sorry, but Putin is not on trial. And this is the fourth year of the biggest war in Europe since World War II. And the man who started it is not only free, he is still fighting for his frozen money in Europe,” Zelenskyy said, looking like he is indirectly suggesting that Putin should be arrested. This remarks came as Putin said he was ready to part with frozen Russian assets to help rebuild war-torn Ukraine after a peace deal was struck between Russia and Ukraine. In televised remarks at a meeting of the Russian Security Council late on Wednesday night, Putin also announced to donate USD 1 billion from the frozen assets to the Trump-promoted Board of Peace to oversee the Gaza ceasefire plan. “Incidentally, the remaining funds from our frozen assets in the US could be used to rebuild territories damaged by the fighting after a peace treaty is concluded between Russia and Ukraine. We are also discussing this possibility with representatives of the US administration,” he said. This is not the first time when he asked US to arrest Putin. Earlier, this month, reporters after a meeting with European national security advisors, the Ukrainian president was asked about Donald Trumps’ military action against Venezuela. “How should I react to this? What can I say?,” Zelensky said with a wry smile. “If it’s possible to deal with dictators this way, then the US knows what to do next,” he added.

Will Trump arrest Putin?

As it is reported that Zelenskyy had suggested earlier that Putin should be arrested and Trump just said no. Trump waved off the idea of any operation like used to capture Maduro, while venting frustration over the grinding war and his failure so far to bring it to an end. “Well, I don’t think it’s going to be necessary,” Trump said in response to a question during a meeting with US oil companies executives at the White House Friday.
