As reported by Business Insider, the company has revealed that it will change job titles for all its 181,500 US employees starting June 1, 2026. The Big Four consulting firm shared its plan in an internal presentation and described the latest move as part of a broader modernisation effort in response to shifts driven by artificial intelligence. The company also said that the employees will be informed about their new titles on January 29 and the complete rollout will begin with Deloitte’s next financial year. The new changes will apply across all divisions in the company.
Deloitte is changing job titles of its employees
As per the report, along with the overhaul, Deloitte is also introducing a new senior leadership designation. Presently, the firm’s top ranks are partners, principals and managing directors. Starting June this year, a new role titled ‘leaders’ will join the group, marking a significant update to the hierarchy of the company.“We are modernising our talent architecture to provide a more tailored experience reflective of our professionals’ broad range of skills and the work they do,” a Deloitte spokesperson told Business Insider.
Reason why Deloitte is making this change
The consulting firm has shared that its present talent architecture is “outdated” and built for a more homogenous consulting workforce. However, with AI in the picture, Deloitte mentioned that the clients are demanding new skills and capabilities, while employees are seeking a more tailored career experiences.By redesigning the job titles, the company aims to better match the roles with responsibilities and clarify career levels to make sire consistency for employees performing similar work. Importantly, the firm emphasised that day-to-day work, leadership structures, and compensation philosophy will remain unchanged.
Difference between the new and old system
Earlier, the consultants at Deloitte made progress via a ladder of analyst, senior analyst, consultant, senior consultant, manager, and senior manager before reaching the PPMD ranks. But under the new system, these titles will become more specific, incorporating references to “job families” and “sub-families.”For example, a current senior consultant could be retitled as:
- Senior Consultant, Functional Transformation
- Software Engineer III
- Project Management Senior Consultant
Internally, employees will also receive alphanumeric codes to indicate job levels — such as L45 for senior consultants and L55 for managers. Deloitte said these changes will “drive greater clarity and market relevancy.”
