Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced a special ‘free offer’ for students. In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) Pichai has announced that the students can now prepare for the SAT for free using Google’s Gemini AI. In the post, Pichai revealed that learners ca take full-length SAT practice exams directly inside the Gemini app at no additional cost. The feature of the Gemini app uses vetted material from The Princeton Review and offer instant feedback once a test is completed.“Helpful update for students, you can now take full practice SATs for free in the @GeminiApp.It uses vetted content from @ThePrincetonRev and gives you feedback straight away. Starting with the SAT today, but more tests are on the way!,” wrote Pichai.
How the SAT prep feature works
Students can now access the new tool by simply prompting Gemini with, “I want to take a practice SAT test.” The AI then offers a full-length, on-demand exam within the app. After completing the task, Gemini breaks down the performance by topic and will also highlight the strengths, weaknesses and areas that need improvement.“When you complete a practice test in Gemini, you’ll receive immediate feedback highlighting where you excelled and where you might need to study more. For anything you don’t understand, you can ask Gemini to explain the correct answer. By helping you identify specific knowledge gaps, Gemini empowers you to turn those insights into action — creating a customized study plan that can help you walk into your exam with confidence,” said Google in a blog post. Learners are also allowed to ask for follow-up questions and request explanations for specific answers, making the experience interactive and personalised. In a blog post, Google said the goal is to help students “identify specific knowledge gaps” and turn those insights into a customized study plan designed to boost confidence ahead of test day.
Google Gemini’s expanding role in education
The SAT announcement comes just days after Google disclosed that Gemini will also power Khan Academy’s Writing Coach, a tool designed to guide students through the writing process rather than generate full assignments.Google has been gradually working on expanding Gemini’s role in the sector of education. The company pledged $1 billion in August last year in order to support US colleges and other non-profit organisations by offering access to AI tools, technical assistance and other educational resources.
