Gold futures surged to a fresh lifetime high on Wednesday, tracking a sharp rally in global prices as investors flocked to safe-haven assets amid escalating trade war tensions and heightened geopolitical uncertainty.On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for the February contract soared by Rs 7,774, or 5.16 per cent, to hit an all-time high of Rs 1,58,339 per 10 grams, extending gains for the third straight session. Over the last three trading days, gold prices have climbed Rs 15,822, or 11.10 per cent, from Rs 1,42,517 per 10 grams on January 16.“Gold and silver prices extended their rally to fresh record highs, driven by heightened global uncertainty amid escalating trade war tensions,” Rahul Kalantri, Vice-President of Commodities at Mehta Equities Ltd, said.In the international market, Comex gold futures breached the USD 4,800-per-ounce mark for the first time, with the February contract gaining USD 113.4, or 2.4 per cent, to trade at USD 4,880.9 per ounce. Comex silver futures for March were marginally higher at USD 94.79 per ounce, after touching a record of USD 95.53 per ounce in the previous session.Here is how much gold costs in major Indian cities today:
