Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul.

Despite the thrilling 2-2 result in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where India and England shared honours across five Tests, the deeper story showed India’s dominance. India won 33 sessions compared to England’s 21, with 18 sessions shared. Even with the success of the red-ball team, the T20 side led by Gautam Gambhir looks settled, and very few changes are expected ahead of the Asia Cup. Several Test stars will not feature in the upcoming tournament. Here’s a look at five players from the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy who are set to miss the Asia Cup:1. Jasprit Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah featured in only three of the five Tests due to workload management, and for the same reason, he is expected to be rested for the Asia Cup as well. In those three Tests, Bumrah picked up 14 wickets at an average of 26. He also had a solid IPL season, taking 18 wickets with best figures of 4/22 and an impressive economy rate of 6.68.

2. KL Rahul KL Rahul is also likely to miss out on the Asia Cup. The wicketkeeper-batter last played T20Is for India in the 2022 World Cup and hasn’t been part of the format since. However, he had a fantastic IPL 2025 for the Delhi Capitals, scoring 539 runs at a strike rate close to 150 and averaging 53.9. Despite this form, Sanju Samson is expected to be the first-choice keeper, with Dhruv Jurel or Jitesh Sharma backing him up.3. Yashasvi Jaiswal Another name missing from the Asia Cup squad is opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He is currently part of the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, which likely rules him out of the Asia Cup plans. In IPL 2025, Jaiswal was one of the key performers for Rajasthan Royals, scoring 559 runs in 14 matches.

Do you believe the T20 side is adequately prepared for the Asia Cup without these players?

4. Shubman Gill Shubman Gill was undoubtedly the standout batter of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, finishing with over 750 runs in the series. However, he won’t be part of the Asia Cup as he has been named captain of the North Zone for the Duleep Trophy. Also, with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson locking down the opening spots in the T20 side, Gill is not expected to feature.5. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant missed the fifth Test after fracturing his right foot during the fourth match in Manchester. He will not be fit in time for the Asia Cup and is unlikely to be considered. Pant was not in India’s T20 plans post the 2024 World Cup, and his IPL 2025 season didn’t help his case. Apart from a brilliant century against RCB, where he scored 118, Pant managed just 151 runs in his other 13 matches, finishing the season with 269 runs in 14 games for the Lucknow Super Giants.
